What is Indian Head Massage? Massage is a part of every day life in India, babies are massaged daily from birth and then taught how to massage other family members when they are old enough. Women use oil to with head massage to condition and care for their hair, and many barbers offer head massage to their clients. In the 1980’s Narendra Mehta combined the different elements of massage in India together and brought the techniques to the UK. Over time it has gained in popularity and the routine has been expanded to include more spiritual aspects such as chakra rebalancing and aura work. The treatment is a head, neck, shoulder and scalp massage on a physical level, however the close proximity of the therapist and working with the chakras makes it a powerful spiritual and emotional experience too.
