What is
Reflexology?
Reflexology
has its roots in both Ancient Egypt and the Far East although today
a treatment takes the form of a series of massage and pressure
techniques over the whole foot. The name reflexology comes from the
underlying concept that every part of the body is reflected in the
foot and so by working the whole of the foot the whole of the body
can be treated.
The aim of a
reflexology treatment is to promote homeostasis (the bodies natural
balance) and so works on the principal that if one part of the body
is out of balance that will affect all others.
Treatments can be given to either the hand or
the foot.
Benefits
of Treatment:
-
Deep
relaxation – 75% of all ailments are stress related so this
should not be undervalued!
- Improved
Circulation – Increasing the efficiency of organs and cells.
- Releasing nervous tension – 7000 nerves are stimulated
by a reflexology massage!
- Improved waste removal and elimination.
-
Promotes
the bodies ability to self-heal.
What is a
treatment like? An initial treatment will take approximately
one and a half hours including a consultation process, subsequent
treatments take approximately one hour. The recipient is reclined
in a comfortable chair for the duration and the experience is
usually deeply relaxing although some points may be tender or
sensitive if there is an imbalance in the body.
In addition to
working on the physical level the treatment also affects the
emotional, mental and spiritual giving the client the experience of
a compassionate physical touch without being too invasive.
It is not
uncommon to feel pleasantly tired after a treatment.
